Integrative Family Program

AdCare has a strong open-door visitation policy and encourages families and friends to be present and involved in their loved one’s recovery, as this benefits both patients and family members. However, visitations must first be approved by a patient’s treatment team to confirm that visitation is conducive to a patient’s recovery. AdCare Rhode Island also offers a plethora of seminars, classes, and even group counseling sessions that families can participate in and learn from.

Veteran’s Affair Community Care Partner

AdCare Rhode Island is a VA Community Care Partner. In other words, we work 1-on-1 with veterans assigned by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Local VA to meet our patients’ needs. Being a VA Community Care Partner allows AdCare Rhode Island to offer individualized and comprehensive therapeutic services to veterans and those in the armed forces without concern of whether or not their insurance policy will cover their treatment. As a VA Community Care Partner, the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) has recognized AAC as a reputable mental healthcare and substance abuse treatment provider.

Veterans also benefit from our Salute to Recovery program which is a specialized curriculum developed specifically for veterans & first responders. This program focuses on PTSD, the biology of addiction, and more. At our treatment facilities:

  • Every veteran receives a psychosocial assessment as well as a history and physical soon after admission, ensuring any comorbid conditions are identified and treated appropriately.
  • Veterans meet with a therapist individually one time per week along with daily check in sessions.
  • Veterans can participate in group sessions up to 5 times per day.

Co-occurring Mental Health Disorders

Clinicians at AdCare Rhode Island are able to treat patients with co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Co-occurring mental health conditions can impede someone’s ability to fully recover from their substance abuse issues. By treating them in tandem with addiction, AdCare Rhode Island can help patients learn coping skills to deal with each of their mental health conditions and recover.

Chronic Medical Conditions & Physical Challenges

AdCare Rhode Island is equipped to care for medically-compromised patients, although patients with chronic or acute medical conditions are accepted on a case-by case basis. AdCare is typically able to accept patients with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, seizures, or other managed conditions. Each part of our facility has ADA-compliant, handicap rooms available and everything is wheelchair-accessible. If the patient is not ambulatory, they need to have their own transportation device to get around our facility. However, AdCare does carry wheelchairs on our premises that are available for emergencies.

Individual Therapy

Depending on your level of care, you may participate in individual therapy for 50 minutes, 1-2 or more times a week. Therapists at AdCare can facilitate a variety of different treatment modalities including (but not limited to) cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

AdCare Rhode Island is authorized to administer Vivitrol injections, naltrexone, and Suboxone. Depending on the patient’s needs, and after a careful evaluation by our treatment team, AdCare can also administer psychiatric medications to patients who agree to medication-based treatment.

Family Visits
Family Visits

AdCare Rhode Island offers a family day on Sundays, where families and other loved ones may participate in discussions with clinicians, visit with their loved one, and engage in family therapy sessions. On the last Wednesday of every month, the facility hosts a family community night with Dr. Colbern, which is open to the public. Meetings may include learning about how to get loved ones into treatment or listening to the experience of alumni or their families. These meetings often function as a support group for the individuals who attend.

Visiting your loved one

AdCare Rhode Island residential has an open door visitation policy and strongly encourages patients’ families and loved ones to be as involved as possible. If they want a family therapy session, they are encouraged to call ahead of time so that the clinicians can allot time to meet with the patient and their family/loved ones. Children are welcome to visit as well, and the meditation room at AdCare has coloring books and toys for children who are visiting. During your loved one’s treatment, we can work with you to plan a visit. Your loved one’s treatment team will provide you with all of the information you need to schedule your visit.
